Zero's and Pontiffs Strike Deal

Seeking a quick fix for injured C Wilson Ramos, the American Division-leading Zero's made a deal with the Pontiffs today, trading Ramos and OF Nick Swisher for C John Buck and OF Shin-Soo Choo.

Ramos, who sustained a torn knee ligament in a game on Saturday, May 12, is out indefinitely.

The Zero's, reigning SBL champions, seemed to be intent on making a move before Monday's Free-Agent Draft No. 3, in which they have the 12th overall pick.

The Pontiffs, 6-1 last week, have Josh Hamilton and you don't.

Zero's Acquire 1B Loney From BatFaces

From the Office of the Commissioner:

---

"The Zero’s and Batfaced Barristers announced the following trade: 1B Loney and SP T.Wood to the Z’s, 1B Morneau and SP Bedard to the BB’s."

---

The Zero's taking on 1B Loney is surprising. At least they got him for dead weight.

Bams Take Desperate Measures

Coming off the SBL ticker tape (We're f*ing old school around here):

"The Bammers send SP Haren and 2B Walker to Pontiffs for SP Latos and 2B Cano"

---

The Pontiffs, the abyss of the league, heard the cries of the fast-approaching Bams and sent up its last surviver, Robinson Cano, to help right the Bams' beleagured mancraft.

It's a risky move for the Bams, who trade SP Dan Haren and 2B Neil Walker, two of the team's most consistent players. For the Pontiffs, strictly a cash dump. Cano wanted too much to re-sign.

Also, why hasn't this league considered "keeper" players? Or has it?

Trade, Pre-Draft DL Rules

From the Office of the Commish...

"We have a reminder to pass along on the subject of trades –- they are not permitted on draft days. Any trades made leading into a supplemental draft must be completed, and the commissioner’s office notified, by the Sunday night before the draft. . . . And what the heck, as long as we’re sending out notices, here’s another, on the subject of DL moves: When an SBL owner activates a player from his DL, necessitating that he drop someone to create a roster spot at that player’s position, that move must be made no later than Sunday evening before a supplemental draft. That way, the rest of the league can be notified in advance of the draft that the player being dropped will be available in the draft pool."

Derelicts, 'Tiffs Make Deal

From the Office of the Commish...

"For those who missed it, there was a trade over the weekend between the Derelicts and the Puny Pontiffs:

RP Papelbon and 3B Alvarez to the Double D's; RP Lyon and 3B Roberts to the Poontiffs."

---

The trade was a fairly even swap. The 'Licts bolster their already stout bullpen with a Papelbon-er, and the 'Tiffs get a warm body at third base.

DamU, 'Skins Make Deal

From the of Office of the Commish...

"DamianUnited and the Whiteskins consummated a trade Monday:

OF N.Cruz and SP Dempster to DamU, OF Del.Young and SP T.Hudson to the 'Skins.

For those following along at home, Hudson takes Dempster’s place on the Whiteskins' taxi squad, and Dempster goes directly into DamU’s rotation in the spot previously occupied by Hudson. The 'Skins can move Hudson into their rotation on the next draft day."

---

For the time being, it looks like DamU got the better of this deal, trading for one of the premier power bats in ball. Cruz's 15 HRs currently ranks him just outside the Top 10 in the MLB.

Derelicts in market for closer

The Derelicts think they're one reliever away from getting back in the National Division race.

Derek's e-mail:

Greetings (again) fellow owners ...

First, I'd like to offer my appreciation to all who made offers last week, despite the fact that no triggers were pulled. The resurgence of Mr. Pedroia -- who now only trails Barmes in HR numbers -- has made it difficult to trade him, and my OF depth situation seems to have been settled for the moment, with the supplemental acquisition of Colby Rasmus.

However ...

The Derelicts remain in the market for a steady closer. My two injured third basemen, Mike Lowell and Alex Gordon, were both activated this week, so I am looking at either being forced to drop one of them or swing a deal.

That said, I'm offering the services of Clint Barmes, Gordon or Lowell (but would be willing to possibly discuss Ian Stewart), LaTroy Hawkins, and my supplemental pick for a package that would include a lesser backup 2B, a weaker 3B (who I would likely drop) and a consistent ninth-inning guy.

Just gauging the interest."

The Double D's (35-58) had their best week recently (5-1) but are 22 games back of the National Division-leading Cherry Valley Bombers.

Badgers need a catcher

The Badgers, befallen by backstop woes, are looking for a warm body to occupy the tools of ignorance.

Andy's e-mail:

"Geovany Soto got hurt today and Jesus Flores is out for the season, so I need to acquire a catcher with my draft pick. Perhaps you have a lightly used backup and you could make use of a second draft pick? Let me know, thanks."

The Badgers have had something of a revolving-door roster policy this season though it hasn't seemed to hurt them too badly thus far. The Badgers (41-40) currently sit in 3rd place in the American Division, 14 games behind the first place Zero's.

Moaners make minor deal with Bammers

Mikee's Moaners and Brian's Bammers made a post-draft trade as both teams look to solidify positions where depth was lacking.

To the Moaners: SP James Shields and SS Elvis Andrus.

To the Bammers: SP Chris Young and SS Marco Scutaro.

FYI, SS Marco Scutaro becomes the first player to be traded twice this season. Orginally taken by PaulO's Zeroes in the first free-agent draft, Scutaro was traded from the Zeroes to the Moaners earlier this season in a deal involving SS Hanley Ramirez.

Badgers, DamU complete multi-player trade

Andy's Badgers found a willing partner in their attempt to rattle their roster, trading spare parts to DamianUnited for a pitching phenom and a free-agent draft pick.

To the Badgers: SP Tommy Hanson, OF Jack Cust, RP Daniel Aardsma and a pick, which he used to select OF Andrew McCutchen.

To DamU: OF Andre Ethier, SP Chris Volstad, RP Dan Wheeler.

Moaners trade Hanley to Zero's in 8-player deal

Mikee's Moaners gave up on Hanley Ramirez, trading him to Paulo’s Zero’s in what amounted to an eight-player trade

To the Zero’s: SS Hanley Ramirez, OFs Lance Nix and Xavier Nady, and SP Ricky Nolasco

To the Moaners: SS Marco Scutaro, OFs Curtis Granderson and Vernon Wells, and SP Ubaldo Jimenez
